Day 2 was rainy and cold but still involved a lot of walking.
Main building in the town plaza
More of the Falla has appeared.
Stopped by the market
A variety of paella dishes
Then we went to the Ninot exhibition. Each Falla has ninots around it. They are basically little fallas and before the week of Fallas they are all together in this tent so people can come see them. A few weeks before, people vote on which one they want to be saved. I have pictures of some on an earlier blog, but those were someone else's. I had not been, so it was perfect timing that Joe and Mom were able to come before it closed. Because on Tuesday (la Plantá) the ninots get paraded around Valencia to their Falla.
Some, you aren't so sure what they are trying to say. And you don't really have time to try and figure each one out b/c there are so many. Plus, if there are any words on them..they are written in Valenciano.
But others are pretty clear what they mean.
Facebook addict...in ninot form and in person.
Others are just plain ridiculous.
Then there are little bitty ninots...only about a foot tall.
Rows and rows of ninots
And then... well then.. there are just some ninots for which there are no words.
Here's one for Dylan and Dad.
Walleeeee
Like I said... No. Words.
I don't even know
After the scandalous ninots, we needed food. And beer. It is the best feeling to finally sit down in a warm restaurant after a long morning of walking in the rain... and by morning I mean from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This was pretty much our morning routine every day. Actually, 11:00 was an early time to get going by the end of the week.
Otra cerveza por favor.
I believe this was the only day we observed siesta. After a nap, we hit my favorite Italian restaurant, Pappardella.
Then I took them to a bar that has this particular Spanish style of drinking. It is called a porron. The porron is the jar and you can put whatever you want in it.
You are supposed to actually pour it in your mouth while holding it away from your mouth, but we're all ok with each others' germs here.
Then we went to see some Fallas at night and some of the illuminations. All the streets have lights stringing across them, but some streets take it to a whole new level.
The lights are leading to the Falla.
Each Falla has a baby Falla next to it (the infantil fallas)
And then there's the big Falla. This is the one that ended up winning. It was huge.
One last Falla and then we called it a night.
Ummmmm....some of these were NOT work-appropriate. Neat stuff, though!!
ReplyDeleteThey're not anything appropriate...yet they are up all over the city for a week.
ReplyDeleteEm, would you believe I own a porron and at one time in my life, was quite proficient at drinking out of it. Anything for wine!
ReplyDeleteLou
